Workshop

※Except teams from Macau, it is a requirement that each team must send AT LEAST ONE TEAM MEMBER TO ATTEND THE WORKSHOP. Teams that fail to attend the workshop will be disqualified.

Topic: How to prepare an outstanding financial planning proposal
Time: 16 September, 2023 (Sat), 10:45 am – 1:45 pm
Venue: The workshop by Webinar will be held on September 16 2023 10:45 am. HKRFP will use Zoom. Please, be noted that your login computer or laptop or mobile phone MUST be with name and team name same as your name and team name on the application form so that we know your attendance which is one of the requirement of the competition; Zoom link. meeting ID: 8???3675520717???.

Case Study will be published and can be downloaded from download area below after the workshop i.e. (in between 16:00 – 23:59).

Cases study from the past UFP Awards were adopted by more than one universities for educational purposes.

Final Round presentation on a topical issue Theme will be published and can be downloaded from download area below after Round Two results announced on Oct 30 2023 (i.e. in between 16:00 – 23:59)

Workshop highlight

The Workshop was held successfully on 07 September 2021 with 64 teams attended and 300 undergraduates participated from regional universities. A free lecture workshop was delivered by Mr. Simon S.P. LEE.

Mr. Simon S P Lee, is an Honorary Fellow at the Asia Pacific Institute of Business and an adjunct faculty at the Shenzhen Finance Institute (SFI) of CUHK (Shenzhen). He served as the co-director of International Business and Chinese Enterprise (IBCE) program from 2017 to 2021 and as Assistant Dean (Undergraduate Studies) at the CUHK Business School from 2015 to 2017. He graduated with a degree in Physics and minored in Computer Science. He holds MBA and M.Sc in computer science. He is a member of the HKICPA and a fellow of ACCA. Simon is a financial columnist and often expresses his comments on economic and financial issues on local and international media. He delivers talks and training for firms and has written several books on personal finance.

Mr. Simon HO, Hon Secretary of HKRFP addressed the rules of the Award 2023. It was a free lecture on the topic of  ” How to prepare an outstanding financial proposal”.

Objectives

  1. Raise awareness on financial planning among undergraduate students.

This is a team competition. Each team consists of at least 3 or at most 4 students. Each student can only participate in one team and all members of a team must be from the same university. All full time undergraduate students are eligible :

  • Round One (12 teams)
    • 12 highest scores teams will be winners of Round One.
    • Certificate of Merit will be presented to 4 teams of Round One.
    • 8 teams of highest scores will be entered into Round Two.
  • Round Two (8 teams)
    • 8 highest score teams will be elected from winners of Round One.
    • Certificate of Excellent will be presented to 4 teams of Round Two.
    • 4 teams of highest scores will be entered into Final Round.
  • Final Round (4 teams)
    • 4 highest scores teams will be elected from winners of Round Two.
    • These 4 teams will be ranked as follows:
      • 3rd Runner-up team: Certificate of recognition plus cash prizes $2,000
      • 2nd Runner-up team: Certificate of recognition plus cash prizes $3,000
      • 1st Runner-up team: Certificate of recognition plus cash prizes $4,000
      • Champion team: Certificate of recognition plus cash prizes $5,000
      • HKRFP and Rotary Trophy for Champion team.
    • Winners of final teams are eligible to apply for HKRFP student membership with annual subscription fee waiver for two years.
  • Best Presenter
    • Certificate of recognition will be awarded to individual who has outstanding presentation performance during final round.
    • Participants are advised to introduce his or her simple name loudly and clearly. His and her name tag has to be evidently displayed so that the judges can listen and see you.

 

Competition Rules

Formation of team name: university names and related words to be incorporated into team name is prohibited. Please do NOT mention your university names and related words in your financial proposal submission and during your final presentation. Panel of judges will not know teams from which universities until Final Round results are obtained.

There are Three (3) Rounds of competitions.

It is a requirement that each team MUST send at least ONE team member to attend the financial planning workshop organized by Society of Registered Financial Planners (HKRFP). Teams fail to comply will be disqualified. 

  • Round One
    • (12 top score teams selected, out of which 8 top score teams enter into Round Two)
    • Written financial proposal submitted to HKRFP in English.
    • HKRFP will provide a case to be uploaded on HKRFP web site after workshop.
    • Each participating team should prepare a detailed financial proposal from the given case.
    • The proposal MUST be written in English and no more than 15 single-sided, single-spaced pages, with 12-point Times Roman font size, one space need (including cover pages and appendices)
    • Criterion
      • Effective use of client’s information (15 scores)
        • Make use of all the information provided in the case to assess the current financial conditions of the client.
      • Formulation of financial goals (10 scores)
        • Help the client establish realistic financial goals given his/her constraints.
      • Personal statement (15 scores)
        • Discussion of personal career goal and opportunities under the cross-boundary wealth management connect scheme.
      • Financial proposal (25 scores)
        • Devise and defend a comprehensive financial proposal that is most suitable for the client to achieve his/her financial goals.
      • Risk Analysis (15 scores)
        • Identify risks that may arise in the financial proposal and suggest safeguards to mitigate these risks.
      • Presentation (20 scores)
        • Clarity, organization, conciseness, grammar.
  • Round Two
    • (8 teams from Round One, out of which 4 top score teams selected to enter Final Round)
    • Each winners team is required to submit the following to HKRFP by e-mail info@hkrfp.org.
      • A 10 minutes video oral presentation of their written case in Round One in English, and
      • A set of Power point slides of the presentation.
    • Criterion
      • Communication skills (45 scores)
        • Present ideas clearly, systematically, effectively and forcefully.
      • Content delivery  – Personal statement (15 scores)
        • Presentation of personal statement and coverage of the cross boundary wealth management connect scheme.
      • Content delivery – Financial proposal (20 scores)
        • Presentation of essential elements of a financial proposal within the time constrain provided.
      • Power-point slides (ppt) (15 scores)
        • Quality of ppt.
      • Others (5 scores)
        • Charisma and team spirit.
      • Teams are ranked according to: combined scores of 0.5  x Round One scores + 0.5 x Round Two scores.
  • Final Round – Presentation on topical issue
    • A topical issue related to financial planning will be provided by HKRFP.
    • Each team has 10 minutes to present in front of a panel of judges in English.
    • Presentation will be followed by 10 minutes questions and answers session from panel of judges.
    • Each team is required  to send the the power-point slides of their presentation before Final Round and Award Presentation Ceremony by e-mail to info@hkrfp.org

      • Knowledge of the topic (20 scores)
      • Logical thinking (20 scores)
      • Presentation skills (20 scores)
      • Innovations, independent thinking (40 scores)
      • Teams are ranked according to: combined scores of 0.15 x Round One scores + 0.15 x
      • Round Two scores + 0.7 x Final scores.
