Examination
The professional qualification of HKRFP provides a good credential for professionals in the financial planning industry. The designation of HKRFP is a symbol of high professional standard of the individual who meet stringent educational and professional experience requirements.
All examinations will be conducted on the same day in Hong Kong and China centers. Hong Kong Examination and Assessment Authority will be responsible for Hong Kong examination administration. Universities will be selected at Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Wuhan, ChengDu, and ChungQing, as examination centers for China candidates. The uniform examination will be started since December 2004.
The examinations are designed to assess the ability of candidates to apply financial planning knowledge and theories related to practitioners’work environment, thereby protecting the public by assuring that all candidates holders are at the appropriate level of competency.

| Examination entry |
| Examination candidates have to be registered as student member. A registered student of the Society who has paid his/her current annual student fees; the required examination fees; and must have successfully completed the respective required education modules at universities or education institutions recognized by the Society is eligible for entry to the examinations for that specific modular paper. Examinations are normally to be held twice a year in June and December in Hong Kong, and four times in China i.e. March, June, September and December. Examination entry forms will be sent to all eligible students in advance of each examination diet. If an examination is cancelled and changed; candidates will be notified the date and time of the examination. In such case, candidates are not required to register. Applications for refund and / or transfer of the examination fee will not be accepted. |

| Examination results |
| Examination results will be released to candidates within two (2) months from the examination dates. Candidates will be notified by official letters together with transcripts. |
Hong Kong stream Examination Date
There is no examinations for March diet and Sept diet for Hong Kong stream. Candidates should submit their examination application form to HKRFP one (1) month prior to examination for approval.

Under the uniform examination rules, the China stream for June and diet and December diet examination dates will follow the same date as Hong Kong stream.

| Examination language |
| HKRFP Certification Examination will be offered in English and Simplified Chinese version. Traditional Chinese version will NOT be offered. The two languages of the examinations are equivalent. Applicants are required to specify which languages they sit for by submitting the application form. No change of examination language will be allowed after the examination application is received by HKRFP. English language will be offered twice a year in June and December. Simplified Chinese will be offered four times a year in March, June, September and December. |
| Examination Format |
| The examination format for modules: Financial Planning, Insurance Planning, Investment Planning, Tax Planning and International Financial management & Tax are in multiple-choice questions. Candidates select ONE best answer from the given. Each questions carries one (1) score. Questions require calculation and problem questions will offer two (2) scores. Generally, there are 75 to 100 questions carry a total of 100 scores. Candidates are required to write a comprehensive financial plan on a problem for module FP 3050 Best Practices for Financial Planners. There will be 60% in multiple-choice questions and 40% for the written financial plan on a given case problem. The purpose to write a comprehensive financial plan is to ensure candidates are capable to deliver professional financial planning solutions to the public. Format of comprehensive financial plan. |

| Policy on calculators |
| Candidates are allowed to bring in their calculators into the examination center provided that calculators are non-programmable calculators. The following are allowed for HKRFP Certification Examination: Casio FC100, FC200, Hewlett-Packard 10Bll, HP12C and Texas Instrument BA Ll Plus. The examination center is NOT responsible for provision of calculators. |
| Re-examination Policy |
| If candidates fail the examination, he/she has to re-sit for the failed papers. Candidates have to complete all examination papers within seven (7) years. Otherwise he/she has to re-enroll for Student Membership and retake all examination papers. |
| Challenge Stauts |
| Candidates with proof of studies on acceptable financial planning courses or programmes can be considered to sit for challenge examinations with approval from the Society. Candidates have to provide attendance certificates of relevant courses or programmes from the Institute and details syllabus for assessment. The assessment fee is HKD $1,000 for each module of course. The process normally takes two (2) weeks and candidates will be informed of the result. The examination Committee's decision on results of evaluation is final. |
